The Japan Collection is inspired by Tara's trip to Japan where she spent time painting and exploring Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka.  It was a freezing time of year, and there was no heating in the traditional tea house Tara was staying in, but she spent her days exploring by bicycle none the less.  Tara loved the antique bathrooms in Japan, each had such an interesting theme- the designs were amazing!  In her youth, she had worked as a design consultant for a tiling showroom, for about 10 years and would help clients select tiling for their kitchen and bathrooms, put together interior concepts and give colour advice. She found the interiors of the historical rooms in Japan so interesting, tiled art that expanded over entire walls, antique fixtures, pastel colours, rooms completely pink, very different to the popular white tile back home.  Imagining a world of floor to ceiling pink, the concept of the shoot was born.

The shoot was created by finding a pink sink on the side of the road, tiling with tiles found at a garage sale, spray painting tiles and plants.  She also created fake bathroom accessories like a mirror and toothbrush to complete the space.  Tara wanted to create a full floor to roof bathroom feel like the tiled spaces that could be considered works of art themselves.

The collection is hand dyed by Tara, which involved days in the backyard mixing giant vats of linen in dye by hand.  The prints were painted in Japan by Tara.
