About the Patchwork collection

The Patchwork Collection is a range made from offcuts from past ranges of Tara Whalley collections.  Each garment is one of a kind, and features hand painted textiles collected over the past 10 years.  Tara has painted each print, which reflects on memories and places she has lived and travelled. The range is made in Melbourne.

The Patchwork collection utilises offcuts from previous Tara Whalley ranges to minimise waste.

Design Brief

The aim of this range was to use up as many offcuts from previous ranges as possible to create enough pieces for two runway shows.  Items needed to be appealing, work on previous shapes and also offer something new.

Creating the fabric for this range took a really long time, especially the items with smaller patchworked elements. It was a challenge to make enough items for the two shows as creating the fabric took a considerably long time, but the total number were achieved. The shows were successful and the range came together well.

The items are functional and wearable, designed for the customer who enjoys one of a kind items and craftsmanship.

The world of fashion struggles with the amount of textile waste produced.  By experimenting and creating designs from offcuts it not only reduces waste from my personal range but adds to the general trend of sustainable fashion.

This project used over four big bags of offcuts.  Creating projects from textile waste minimises the impact of the brand and looks to incorporate sustainability and innovation into the brand itself.  If customers purchase and enjoy the items, it will help create bigger and bolder projects in the future.  Each customer also receives a patch kit so they have the ability to add to or fix items to ensure a long life.

Please note that measurements may vary slightly as the garment is handmade.

How to use the measurement chart

You can see a little visual demonstration on how our sizing works on our instagram.

1. Take your bust, waist and hip measurements. This will give you the measurements of your circumference. Make sure you write your measurements down.

2. Half these measurements and compare to the size chart of the garment you are interested in. Find a size that is 1-3cm greater than your halved measurements, or more if you like a relaxed fit.

If you need a bit of guidance, or exact measurements of the garment you are interested in, please email info@tarawhalley.com with your measurements, the garment you are interested in and your questions.
